I'm thinking of getting a ham steak and some fresh basil, and making some green eggs and ham...

Fava Beans and eggs.

Seriously. It's an ancient Egyptian dish. Wrap eggs (in shell) in onion skins, and nestle in fava beans (skinned, or Lima, unskinned) in a crockpot and cook for about 18 hours on low.

Serve in a bowl some beans and an egg, with olive oil, salt, pepper and minced raw garlic on the table for each person to add to taste.

Without the salt, pepper, oil and garlic it's bland as hell. With them it's rich and spicy. mmmm.

The eggs come out creamy and soft.

And it's cheap.

I've some flatbread in the freezer. I'll defrost a couple of those as a go with. And if we have tomatoes, we'll have those as well.

We're going to be eating a lot more cheap food now. The recession is scaring me, and we've dumped our money into a house with more expenses. Good thing we love beans. Except the boy. But he used to.

I'm trying to remember how we cooked when we were hungry college students. I remember once, figuring out a month's worth of meals based on what we had in the house already, because we couldn't afford to go food shopping... I got quite imaginative... and ate too many carbs and not enough veggies.

So, we'll also be having yellow split pea soup, baked lima beans (OMG! I WILL post the recipe for that. It's like eating candy), and some lima bean casseroles.

I like lima beans. You can do sooooo much with them.

Yellow Split Pea Soup.

And hopefully cornbread.

We'll be out all afternoon/evening, so we'll eat it late. As a bedtime snack for the boy, I guess...

I can't wait to try this. I will, however, have to do it on a day my mum has to work and it's just me and dad. At least as the tester. She doesn't like garlic. But my dad can has become quite imaginative in the past, using other spices to trick her. I think. LOL. It's a lot nicer than it sounds. And it had her eating things she normally wouldn't. I :notworthy: to my dad when he does things like that.

My college food prep probably isn't something you want to rely on. It was mostly ramen noodles and peanut butter.
